“You only have one life,” goes the saying. The intent behind it is life affirming. That has become a way to say, “Live your life, really live it to the fullest.” But there is a dark side to the saying as well. It is the idea that there is nothing beyond this life. If death is our ultimate and final end, is there meaning and purpose or is life just a futile exercise in pleasure and pain? The Bible teaches a universal resurrection, that we will all rise again. What difference would it make to the lives we live today if we accepted those projections?
